Retro Game Corps (Russ) INTERVIEW #2
Based on your upload date, I’m guessing it’s incompatible on new Winlators? I’m on 7 and I get a black screen when I run the shortcut. Gonna try 5(on RP3+)to see if it has your identical options available. Let me know which version if it is older than 5.0, the image guide 404’d on your website. I made it to the end but it won’t load the open screen of pico 8 so far. New Winlator doesn’t have the precise options of Turnip+Zink or LLVMpipe. I’m guessing I need the older winlator? I’m going to play around with settings until I get a combination that works with your advice. Or maybe I should uninstall and start over on the older winlator?
Hey man I know there was a big update since this video. I know RetroGameCorps did a video recently with some new features like the dpad is now mapped easily.
Were you able to get n64 games to run? I was gifted one of these and I can't get any N64 games to load, which was disappointing.
Man I really felt the “I didn’t have these devices growing up so I’m playing catchup” more than half of my memories with these consoles are of borrowing them from cousins at family events 😅
Ya man that was me 😊
You have an ugly accent.
Too small. Too big a trade off for portability. A PASS
Fair enough
I really wish these companies would make more of these handhelds with a 6-button layout to cater to Sega Genesis and Saturn. You can always remap it to 4-button. Oh well just my opinion
The thing is I don’t think the Anbernic Arc did very well, unfortunately.
@@adinwalls Sadly from I researched it did not even come with Saturn games, even an if they added an analog stick with the d-pad it would of been a great selling point. They missed a few key factors. I hope they did not give up on the 6-button
I love the Retro Game Corps intro and will click on his ViD just to see and hear it lol
Hehe that’s great!
would have got the miyoo if it wasnt mono. i dont mind a mono speaker, but having mono via usb out is crazy
Your diffently a lefty ! Your folding pocket knife says so. Lol Thanks for the information. I think the miyoo is more sexy. Somebody released barley for the miyoo firmware. Cheers
Barley? Is that a thing? I’m actually right handed 😀
My bad Spruce os
Bra ! your frame lock knive is tip down, with pocket clip on the lock side. You'll never be able to reverse flick the the stud. If may ask which one that from
@matthewjefferis9451 yes you can’t reverse flick this one. It’s actually a bit tricky to open. It’s a Kersher knife.
two pieces of junk, honestly
These two devices inspired an accidentally great summary of the retro game industry when Wulff Den compared them. "This one feels bad, and this one runs bad, and why is custom firmware still necessary?" I'm looking forward to the day when someone finally makes a device with no major flaws.
It’s true about CFW but the thing is it’s kinda the thing that makes me enjoy all this. It’s an opportunity for devs to have a bit of fun
So in summary, neither hits the spot of providing the perfect retro pocket device. The anbernic feels closer if they sort the controls & suspend mode. Maybe next version will resolve these faults, but given what you've shown today, both are compromised and neither are a buy. Might as well use existing devices and wait. Thank you for this excellent review which has stopped me buying yet another retro handheld with compromises and disappointment
Hey man, I hoped that WOULDN’T be the takeaway from this video. For the price I think both of these are great, but as you said there are other devices: some commenters made great recommendations such as the RG280V, RG280M, RG300X. These are all still wonderful devices and play all the old systems. For me, design-wise the Miyoo A30 is a good option.
@@adinwalls for someone who is continuing to search for that elusive perfect pocket device, I've now got 6 handhelds all with their own positives but also drawbacks and shortcomings. Don't take my comments too negatively - you've done me a massive favour by providing such a detailed review that you've saved me splashing out on another device that's good but not quite great. And for that I thank you - another great video!
I think that the a30 should have used the same processor as the mini and plus so onion would have worked.
Oh I 100% agree. It would have immediately been able to use OnionOS and been the clear winner out the gate.
RP4 pro + RG556? = Odin 2, just 50% more money needed
😅 I like the way you think!
*in DJ Khaled’s voice* ANOTHER ONE! ☝🏽
Hot take: The RG300X is the best pocketable device.
That IS a good point!
Love the camera work buddy. Great job
Thank you the Fost!
Thanks for the video! Both of these look great 🍻
They do ☺️
No analogue stick doesn't interest me.
That’s what’s great about all these, there’s something for everyone.
Kinda same, but miyoo is underpowered
No earphone jack, major red flag
Yes it can be an issue, I almost never use headphones with these, but if that’s something you do it’s a problem.
Do you have headphone jack on your phone?
@@suhtangwong Yes. Why?
Knulli is being worked on as well for the a30, so that will be great when that materializes.
I still have my metal *Ambernic RG280M.* Only Onion OS on the Miyoo would tempt me now.
Do you have the gradient purple and blue? I wish Anbernic would do colors like that again.
@@jwill7998 No, the dark grey.
280m is still great.
I love your videos, but this time I definitely disagree. I have both devices here and the battery life, the stock firmware, the build quality and the performance are a lot better on the Anbernic. The Dpad and display are also slightly better on the Anbernic, only the face buttons really are too small.
I guess it depends what your focus is on what you’re looking for with all those things
I was thinking about how awesome Adin videos are and then when I enter UA-cam, bam! A new video has come out.
Haha thanks man
Spruce OS was a complete gamechanger for the A30 and it is good that it still has a lower reputation because now you can buy it for 35 bucks or so. For such a great micro handheld, it really is the best deal right now. We might get Onion on the A30 eventually too. Micro: OG MM with Onion/A30 with Spruce Pocketable size: Anbernic 35XX-H/SP to use as a portable Pi. Max bang for your buck? R36S "Why is this so cheap?Might as well buy": Datafrog SF2000 and the vertical variant for less than 10 bucks with the SD rework and the improved OS. Everything else I think it twice if I should buy that or a Steam Deck and is dependant on usecase.
Only thing hurting the value is that their micro sd cards are complete garbage, so you have to add on a bit there.
Great review. I enjoy my 28xx but oh my..it rattles sooo bad
Hehe. Lots of other redeeming qualities though.
These are both neato devices. But if you dislike sounding like you have a babies rattle in your pocket, I can full on recommend getting a rg353m. Love mine. It's a very tight device, with rattle almost non-existent.🙂that 2gb ram is sweet with PortMaster stuff too
Why are you running, jumping with a handheld in your pants? 🤔
Having both for a while, I was in the minority for a long time calling out the Miyoo as the better of the 2. The rattle of the 28xx can't be dampened no matter what mod you perform, and it's an absolute deal breaker for something you want to carry around in your pocket. The feel of the 28xx is also hard in the hand in comparison, not sure why, maybe the plastic used, but it doesn't feel good for extended sessions. Glad the community is finally coming around to what I've been preaching.
Hehe. Yes I am leaning toward the A30 as my fav here
So get the anbernic?
I too am a GKD Pixel lover. It sings with MinUI. Shaun's CFW is amazing on every device he ports it too I first caught on with the Trimui A66. RGC's extra stuff pack and Moto's image on this device is a must have
Yes it’s great 👍
Do you constantly shake your handhelds? I didn't know that was a thing.
Yes, that’s all I do all day because I have almost 20 of them!
@@adinwalls I get what you're saying about the rattle but if I'm paying under $100 or even $50 or less on a handheld like the A30 or the RG28XX then I'm not expecting the same quality as a handheld I paid $200 or more for, so the rattle doesn't bother me.
Hey man if Powkiddy can do better in this regard at a lower price I expect Anbernic to do the same. I agree, these cheaper devices it’s not as big an issue, but I will always point it out because on any other piece of tech it would be an issue.
If the A30 gets Onion again is that going to be a game changer
Agreed
I’m with you on the rattle brother. The 28XX sounds like a container of tic-tacs in my pocket
🙄ya man
agreed with the rattle 100%,
the miyoo a30 has Spruce OS which is an upgraded ra30 and MuOS is being developed for it too
Yes a lot happened while I was filming!!!
They are each half what the other is missing. If these companies could just team up for a try, I wonder what we'd end up getting.
Hehe true
So i own a 28xx and i was debating if i should get the A30 like all week. This video helped me make my decision , im getting the 280v🤣
Haha awesome. Yes the RG280V actually has a pretty decent custom firmware: Adam Image.
Installing muOS on the 28 would fix all the problems he was having 🤷♂️
Correct but this was a review of the stock experience.
@@adinwalls and it was a great Stock OS review!! I’m just a muOS fanboy 😉
@NicHasegawa video on the way…
But does it do THIS?! [puts it in mouth like some kind of barbarian]
Ah man that’s what I should have done! …next time…
Oooo this b-roll!
😍
I want to arrange it that I have more backlit scenes for the broll
Made a backplate for the RGB20SX, free to download and try, let me know if you have any questions. There is three different versions.
Hey man I was busy with a template I got from someone on Reddit I would LOVE to check out your designs. You can tag me on Twitter, Insta or join my discord.
Thank you. Your content is just superb 🤌
Ah thanks so much
More love for the A30! SWEET :)
The nano buttons of the RG28XX are a pure and simple NO WAY, even with better performance and battery. The A30 win in controls, aesthetics and sleep mode, adding a joystick and wifi. What else?
You speak truth 😊
I like MinUI as well but they have have to fix the audio crackle and pops, it really detracts from the quality of the firmware.
The RG28XX is such a nice device. It doesn’t pip my Miyoo Mini+ for my top spot, but it’s a Retro Dream, been playing Advance Wars II and it looks real nice. All the 8Bit & 16Bit stuff plays well, I’m using Knulli as an OS, but the stock OS is OK, it really is. I’m very happy with the screen brightness, and there is no bleed at low levels. I’ve adopted a glasses case as it’s sleeping bag :) one of the ones with the snap closure and it works well. The sound isn’t great, and it rattles, but for the price it’s almost unbeatable.
Yes it does seem like both these handhelds have struck a chord with people.
I have both. Miyoo a30 is the clear winner after installing spruce os. It’s lighter, buttons feel like nes controller, triggers are easier to press. It’s good upto ps1. Wish it was little more powerful. But I’ll be keeping the miyoo a30.
Ah thanks for the comment.
If you install spruce os on the miyoo you need to install muOS on the anbernic.
@@feahnorl I have muos on the rg35xxh. It’s nice. The feel, the buttons and everything else besides power is better on a30.
@@ks1ngh27 I agree, but power is needed if you want shaders. Turn on shaders and the a30 is not good enough.
For these devices, rather use filters, not shaders.
Mini devices won me over. I thought I'd be bothered with small screens, but no! A well designed mini device makes the screen feel good. I'm even playing it at home, which was not my initial intention. The A30 is my current favorite device. It's well designed, which makes it disappear when you're playing, so that you can focus on your retro game. It's also comfortable for the size, the build quality is good, and the controls are great. A bit of false diagonals, it's true, but I can roll the d-pad and play games with a lot of precision. I guess I got used to it. I'm actually beating my own arcade records with it in games like Metal Slug 1 and Blazing Star. I disagree about the shoulder buttons. I love them! It's a breath of fresh air seeing silent shoulder buttons on such a cheap device. Overall we should avoid using shoulder buttons on mini devices because they're not comfortable to use no matter how well designed the device is.
Okay! Well thanks for that feedback.
I've been subbed for about a year since your video on the RG35XX, you've been one of the most underrated channels in retro handhelds for a while now, thanks for continuing to make great quality content!
Thank you so much!
He's coming up, just you wait.
i cant connect to wifi now after installing Gamma OS. Now i cant use my device
Oh that’s strange! Maybe check in on the retro handheld discord in the GammaOS section.
The RG28XX with minUi is amazing! There are now additional standalone emulators you can run (N64, PSP, DC, DS). They also just added NeoGeo
Cool! I’m going to get into firmware more this week.
